CHASING MOMENTS
THE FASTEST GROWING RIDING STYLE
PAST THE TARMAC
There’s definitely something different happening in the way people are riding at the moment. You can feel it shifting away from the usual routes, the predictable roads, the same start and finish points. More and more, riders are looking past the tarmac. They're looking for something a bit less defined. And that’s exactly where the growth in adventure riding is coming from.
I’ve noticed it myself even in Jersey with the types of bikes flying out the dealership doors. The idea of just sticking to clean roads and planned routes doesn’t hit the same anymore. There’s a pull towards the unknown. That’s where the real experience starts, and it’s why adventure motorcycle trends are picking up serious momentum right now.
THE DOPAMINE HIT
However, for me I think it’s not just about the bikes people want to own and ride, it’s about the mindset, and possibly the influence of social media, with people wanting to share more extreme experiences for more likes and comments. People have to feed their need for dopamine hits somehow, and it seems that the more extreme the better.
Adventure riding seems to be more about how far you’re willing to go before you turn around. You stop chasing destinations and start chasing moments. A random turn off the main road or a stretch of dirt that wasn’t on the map. That feeling of not quite knowing what’s ahead or in the majority of cases organised adventure trips, with expert guides, planned routes to test your ability and also the idea of riding with people you’ve never met before. All with one common goal of getting to the end all in one piece. I think that’s what defines the off-road motorcycle lifestyle.
THE RISE OF ADVENTURE BIKES
And the bikes themselves reflect that shift. The rise of adventure bikes in 2026 isn’t by accident. They’re built for exactly this kind of riding. They're versatile, capable and ready to handle whatever gets thrown at them. You’ve got the comfort to cover distance, but also the ability to leave the road completely when you want to.
That freedom changes everything. You’re not limited anymore. You’re not planning rides around perfect conditions or smooth surfaces. You just go. This approach opens up a completely different kind of riding experience. One that feels a bit more raw and a bit more real.
I think that’s why so many riders are being pulled towards it. It brings back that sense of exploration that got most of us into bikes in the first place. Before the routines, before the habits, before riding became predictable.
There’s also something about the pace of it. It’s not always fast. In fact, a lot of the time it’s slower, more controlled. You’re reading the terrain, adjusting constantly and staying aware. It forces you to stay present. You’re not just riding, I think you’re far more engaged and that’s where it becomes addictive.
FUNCTION OVER FINISH
From a build and gear perspective, it’s a completely different approach too. You start thinking about durability over appearance. Function over finish. Tyres that can handle mixed terrain. Protection where it actually matters. Luggage that works in the real world, not just for looks.
That’s something I respect about this side of the culture. Nothing is there for show. If it’s on the bike, it’s because it needs to be. At the same time, the aesthetic is still strong. There’s a rugged, purposeful look to these bikes that feels right. Dust, wear, signs of use… it all adds to it. It tells a story. And that’s something a lot of riders are starting to value more than a polished finish.
WHEN THE ROAD DISAPPEARS
Looking ahead, I don’t see this slowing down. If anything, adventure motorcycle trends are only going to push further. More riders stepping away from traditional routes. More interest in bikes that can do a bit of everything. There will be more people leaning into the off-road motorcycle lifestyle because it offers something different and something far less controlled.
At the end of the day, that’s what a lot of us are chasing now. Not just riding for the sake of it, but riding to feel something. And sometimes, you only find that when the road disappears.
